Reports emanating from the corridors of the Police in Sanniquellie Mah say investigations into recent reports of election violence among supporters of Representative Gonpue Kargon, Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, and CDC, are ongoing in the county.
Speaking to radio Kergheamahn in the county, Senator Johnson accused supporters of Representative Kargon and CDC of attacking his vehicle in the town of Wehplay, in Electoral District 4 in Nimba county.
Nimba lawmaker Johnson alleged that his convoy was attacked and damaged by supporters of Representative Kargon and CDC while touring the county with Unity Party vice running mate Jeremiah Koung.
Since the beginning of August 2023 and arrival of the Unity Party Vice Standard Bearer, Senator Koung, along with Senator Johnson, reports of election violence over political differences among supporters of Unity Party and CDC are on the increase and creating fear among the residents in the county.
Recently, chaos erupted among people believed to be supporters of the Unity Party and supporters of CDC over political differences that left one person dead, with several wounded in the town of Vayenglay in Electoral District five in Nimba County.
Speaking to Voice of Gompa , Representative Gonpue Kargon denied the allegations leveled against him by Senator Johnson that his supporters attacked the Senator’s vehicle.
According to Gonpue, Senator Johnson’s political speech to the people in his home town of Wehplay that he betrayed him, provoked many of the citizens and they left the hall, but nobody stoned his convoy as alleged.
Since the political violence among the aforementioned supporters, Former Nimba Senator and advisor of the CDC, Thomas Grupee, has frowned on both sets of supporters for violating the Farmington Peace Accord in the country.
Many of the CDC’s local officials have denied reports linking them to the District 5 clash
When this paper contacted Police Commander, Dixon Kemokai, via mobile phone, he confirmed that two persons have been arrested, charged, and will be sent to court on Monday August 28, 2023.
