The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it recorded 2,498,904 registrants during the 2023 Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise after the completion of the data synchronization process.
The update accentuates the total number of persons who participated in the just ended 2023 BVR exercise; pending exhibition of the Provisional Registration Roll (PRR); and the 2023 candidate nomination exercise for the 10 October Presidential and Legislative Elections.Speaking yesterday, NEC Boss Davidetta Browne Lansanah said after the registration exercise in phase 1 and 2, the NEC commenced the duplication process through the Biometric Central Management System.
According to her, out of the 2,498,904 registrants, a total number of 2,471,183 are reported as active registrants, and that 27,192 registrants were flagged as duplicates across the 15 counties, while 529, registrants were flagged as suspected underage across the 15counties.
She said, “These records are being investigated through the adjudication process, and that all ineligible registrant will be removed and where warranted; their names will be referred to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution.”She added “With respect to the on-going investigation of the 529 suspected underage registrants, the commission remains mindful in addressing the matter, since the registrants in this category may be minors and therefore have a degree of privacy under the law.”
NEC boss revealed that the details per county after data synchronization are; Bomi county, females- 30,943, males-34,059, total-65,004; Bong county, females-120,677, males-117,080, total-237,757; Gbarpolu county, females-22,350, males-28,991, total-51,341; Grand Bassa county, females-79,524, males-80,029, total-159,553; Grand Cape Mount County, females- 40,574, males-46391, total 86965; Grand Gedeh County, females-30,315, males-33,887, total-64,202, Grand Kru County, females-20141, males-22,707, total-42,848.She added, Lofa County, females-92,110, males-85,927, total-78,037, Margibi County, females-93,990, males-93,307, total-187,297, Maryland County, females-34,207, males-33,893, total-68,100, Montserrado County, females-458,574, males-456,003, total-914,577, Nimba County, females-155,683, males- 153,125, total -08,808, River Gee County, females-18,080, males-19,910, total-37,990, Rivercess County, females -9,290, males-21,016, total-40,306, Sinoe County, females-24,954, males-31,165, total-56,119. Grand total, females -,241,414, males-1,257,490, total-2,498,904, percent, females 49.67%, males 50.32%, total 100.00%.
She emphasized that the sex dis-aggregated figures per county will be adjusted after the investigation of the duplicates and suspected underage cases at the end of the exhibition of the PRR. “These figures are fully dis-aggregated per Electoral Districts and Voter Registration centers, the details will be shared with stakeholders at the end of the briefing and will also be posted on the NEC’s website and at the end 2080 centers across the country during the exhibition period,” she said.
However, NEC boss is also informing Liberians and all stakeholders that the exhibition of the PRR will commence on the 12 June and end on 17 June 2023.“During this period, all 2080 registration centers will become exhibition centers and will open simultaneously across the country from 8:00AM to 5:00PM daily,” she said.
Madam Lansanah added, “The NEC encourages registrants to visit the centers where they registered, because the exhibition is to give registrants the opportunity to reaffirm their registration details; request corrections where necessary; and object to inclusion of persons on the Final Registration Roll (FRR).
The process will ensure that only eligible voters remain on the voter’s roll. It is important that the public bring forward all concerns during the exhibition period.” Meanwhile, the NEC is informing political parties, coalitions, alliances, and independent aspirants that based on the electoral timeline, the nomination of candidates for the 10 October 2023 General Elections which is a critical element in the electoral process, will begin June 14, and ends July 14 at 5: PM at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.The NEC assures that nomination packages can be picked up at the nomination center at the SKD Sports Complex, beginning June 12, 2023, and throughout the nomination period.
The Commission extends gratitude to all electoral stakeholders, including local, regional and international partners, the Ministry of Justice and the National Security Agencies, including the Liberia National Police and the Liberia Immigration Service, owners of properties used by the NEC, the suppliers of the Biometric Kits and Software, Laxton, Neurotechnology and 3D, among others for their work and fervent participation demonstrated throughout the conduct of the BVR exercise.
