Anything Is Everything (AIE) has been crowned as the winning squad and new champions of the just ended Richard T. Mator Cup, an annual youth football tournament played at the Barnesville Estate Sports Estate ground.
AIE and the tournament runner-up Christ United received cash prizes of US$700 and US$300 respectively with medals and trophies after the two teams settled to a goalless draw in the tournament final.
AIE Striker Sayon walked away with the Highest Goal Scorer Award, Lucius Brosco of Christ United won the Most Valuable Player Award, Benedict Dugbe won the Best Goalkeeper Award while defender Patrick Flomo who walked away with the Best Defender Award of the tournament paid tribute to his team officials, head coach and members of the technical staff and players for winning the 2023 championship.
Defender Flomo revealed that it was time for him to pay tribute to his team officials on behalf of his fellow players because it was through their support and encouragement they as players got that helped them perform to expectation against their opponents on and off the field of play from the start of the tournament up to the last minute.
The tournament was played among 12 teams consisting of u-12 athletes and 10 outstanding players who received one school bag each and one year scholarship for the 2023/2024 academy year while five girls were honored and promised with cash prize of US$150 each for their 2023/2024 academy school year.
The core goal of the tournament is to provide youth with the necessary tools and opportunities to build a better life for themselves and their families.
It is accordingly remembered that on the AIE program, it is believed that the highest form of investment is the proper nature and empowerment of youth as Frederick Douglass best put it, it is easier to build strong children for the future development of Liberia society.
Darlington Martor, the founder and Executive Director of the organization Anything is Everything, commended officials and players of the 12 teams that participated in the tournament for the sportsmanship they displayed against one another throughout the tournament and hope that others will follow their good examples.
