The Management of The Inquirer Newspaper, with efforts to develop the capacity of its employees, had a day-long workshop on Cyber crimes and security.
With the growth of technology around the world, there are more risks attached to the cyber space being used by over half of the world population.
With said narratives, the training over the weekend provided some basic information on how to protect their own portion of the Cyber space and also be aware of how criminals get into the system.
The knowledge sharing session became a reality after an intensive media training supported by USAID under the Media Activity implemented by Internews and partnering media institutions and was organized by the institution’s web-master, Bill Weh Pyne, who facilitated the training for his colleagues.
Pyne explained the damage caused by Cyber crimes to internet and computer users advising his team mates to be careful with the management of the media handles.
According to him, the training he attended before preparing to spread the message with his colleagues was aimed at enhancing the Liberian media in serving as the conduit for citizens’ voices and government responses.
He said the aim was to strengthen media sustainability, enrich both human and institutional capacities while advocating for the maintenance of a free press.
Pyne discuss cyber security as a practice on knowing the dangers that exist in the technology world and being able to protect yourself against them.
According to him, scammers are using the internet and digital environment to get to people with the plans of getting into their system and ending many people as victims.
He called on the participants to use their social media handles wisely and be aware of messages that are sent by Cyber criminals to people mails.
The participants lauded the facilitator and the institution for the training that many termed as eye- opener to internet problems that have greater effects.
Some said the training made them to know that not all messages received on the internet are intended to give credence as some use to collect information to hacke accounts.
