NaFAA Receives Consignment Of Motorized Machines

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) says it has received consignment of outboard YAMAHA engines as part of efforts to enhance the capacity of local fishermen in the country.

The consignment is an addition to the first set of more than 500 pieces of motorized engines donated to Liberia through NaFAA by the Japanese government for free distribution to local fisher folks.

The 180 pieces of engines, along with their spare parts, were offloaded Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from three 40-foot containers in Clara Town, Bushrod Island.

According to NaFAA, additional consignment is expected in the coming months. Following the offloading of the consignment, NaFAA Director of Communications and Media Services, Lewis E. B. Konoe, said the new consignment is intended to continue the distribution of free motorized engines to fishermen across Liberia’s nine coastal counties.

Konoe said the intervention is part of President George Weah’s vision to see Liberian fishermen empowered to enable them supply sufficient fish to the market.
