By Bill W. Cooper (Cub Reporter)
The Government of Liberia through its spokesperson, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Eugene Fahngon has assured the stranded students in Morocco on government’s scholarship, of government’s commitment in addressing their plights.
According to Minister Fahngon, the government is aware of the stress and constrains the students are undergoing in Morocco, noting that the government under the watchful eyes of President Weah regrets the situation and assured them of receiving their allowances and benefits anytime soon.
He added that, he spoke to one of the Deputy Minister of Education on yesterday, stressing that work is underway by the government in addressing the situation of those stranded students in Morocco in order to bring relief to them.
“It is true that our students are stressed to the limit and is unfortunate like I have said to you; we will not stand here and sugarcoat or lie to you. The fact of the matter is that the students are going under stress and constrains,” he said.
Fahngon noted that the delay of the students’ allowances and benefits was due to a cut down on wasteful spending, stating that legitimate students in Morocco are suffering as the result of the exercise in order to insure that those students who are in school become true beneficiaries of the tax payers money.
Minister Fahngon further disclosed that the government made available one month payment for the students three months ago after speaking to one of the student leaders which name he did not mention about the government’s failure to give their allowances and benefits over the past 10 months.
Recently, it was reported that students who are said to be on government’s scholarship in Morocco were seen in the street of that country demanding the government of Liberia through protest to see reason in settling their monthly allowances and benefits.
