A non for profit organization, BudgiT Liberia has concluded a one day intensive training on tracking of public projects built by government officials in Liberia.
The day-long interactive exercise which brought together citizens from across three counties is part of the BudgiT Liberia capacity building for community based organizations on budget and project monitoring initiative.
Speaking at the closed of the training, BudgiT Liberia Country Lead, Abraham Varney, said the training was intended to enhance community dwellers knowledge on how to track project allocated for in the national budget.
Accordingly, the training also enable them question and checkmate public officials especially legislators on the full implementation about promises made during elections campaign.
He noted participants were also schooled about their role and rights as community dwellers, which he said will give them the broader understanding about the implementation of the national budget.
“We are happy today because it has been a normal attitude by lawmakers who will use government allocated funds and built public facilities and come back to the people and lied about using their personal funds to do projects.
“So, with this training, our people will now be able to understand and checkmate them about projects done by government funds and those ones that are done as a result of individuals personal resources,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Varney at the same disclosed those trained were also divided in to a committee which shall be comprise of 15 members across the three counties namely Bong, Bassa and Margibi County, with five members per county.
He further that the committee membership is based on selection and recommendation from the community, CSO and CBO to serve.
