The Liberia Immigration Service concluded a Joint Security meeting with Guinea joint Security at the main border on September 19, 2022, in Ganta, Nimba County.
Joint Security assigned at the Liberian border in Ganta disclosed that the meeting was geared toward strengthening cordial working relationships between the two sisterly countries in line with the ECOWAS protocols.
The Joint security officers at the Liberia-Guinea border told this paper that their Guinean counterpart has apologized to the LIS for the alleged harassment carried out against some Liberian citizens wanting to do business in Guinea along with the LIS officers which demonstrated total disrespect to the rule of law in Liberia.
Since the beginning of 2022, there has been reports of alleged security harassment along the Guinea side of the border by the Guinean security officers demanding gate drops from non-Guineans; something which is hindering the free movements among the citizens living along the two countries borders in Nimba County.
The chairperson of the Liberian Joint Security, William Budy, have accepted an apology from his Guinean counterpart and at the same time have also apologized on behalf of his colleagues and citizens who are doing business in Guinea on a daily basis, for any wrong they may have done on the other side of the border.
“We are one people. The only thing that separates us is this border. Therefore, we should treat for each other with respect and discipline,” Maj. Budy advised.
