As the government persists on the continuous support for the advancement of Girls’ Education, the Ministry of Education, with support from the World Bank, over the weekend, deployed 200 female guidance counselors in various counties across the country.
As part of the deployment exercise, female Guidance Counselors across the country are to receive resettlement benefits and other packages.
Speaking at the program held on Friday at Corina Hotel in Monrovia, the Minister of Education Ansu Sonii, said, the deployment of female guidance counselors across the country is intended to enhance the efficiency and proactiveness of teaching through the provision of quality education.
According to Prof Sonii, counseling is a professional discipline that must be given priority as he expects the counselors to be sensitive and demonstrate high quality standard of counseling.
He, however, encouraged County Education Officers, District Education Officers and Principals to receive and work cooperatively with the Counselors deployed so as to enhance the delivery of quality education for all Liberian students especially females.
For his part, the Acting Deputy Minister for Instruction Tarnue Manwolo Bongolee said, the purpose of the guidance counselors is to ensure that all female students complete Secondary education adding, that the guidance counselors have an oversight on teachers, principals and parents as well as students to avoid malpractices in schools.
Adding, Bongolee indicated that the counselors will create the enabling environment for flexibility and cordial relationship between students and teachers.
Speaking further, a Representative of the guidance counsellors lauded the Ministry and the World Bank for the level of support which seeks to empower women across the country noting, that they will work effectively for the development and improvement of girls’ education.
“I think the decision taken by the Ministry is timely and imperative for the advancement of girls’ education. I can assure the Ministry that those who are recruited as guidance counselors will work with every female and male student void of discrimination. The guidance counsellors remain supportive to this program and will encourage every female student to take education very seriously,” she asserted.
