Weah Seeks Ratification
For Int’l Renewable Energy

The Liberian Senate, has voted to send to Committees on Mines, Energy ,Judiciary, Petition Human Rights, as well as Committee on Public Corporation to report to plenary within a week following deliberation from President George Manneh Weah’s seeking ratification for a proposal dubbed “International Renewable Energy Agency Agreement (IRENA ).”
In a communication read by Senate’s Secretary in full plenary of the Liberian Senate on the 36th Day sitting, 5th session, 54th Legislature on July 7, the Chief Executive said, “I am pleased to submit for ratification by the Legislature a Status of the International Renewable Energy Agency Agreement.”
According to the transmitted document, IRENA was established in Germany on January 6, 2009 to promote the widespread and increase adoption of sustainable means and all forms of renewable energy.
“Liberia participated in the founding conference of IRENA. Acting as the global voice for renewable energy, IRENA will facilitate access to all relevant renewable energy information including; technical data, economic data and renewable resource potential data,” the President told members of the Legislature.
The documentation read by the Senate intimated that IRENA will serve experienced and best practices, lessons learned regarding policy framework capacity-building projects and available finance mechanisms of renewable energy-related energy efficiency methods.
The Executive said, ”If IRENA is ratified by the Legislature and signed into handbill, it will benefit Liberia immensely especially in the area of “Our number of capacity building initiatives given that we have established rural and renewable energy agency (RREA) of Liberia and considering thereof, I will request your kind consideration in ratifying this instrument.”
The communication, which is seeking ratification from the Executive is being sponsored at the Liberian Senate by Maryland County Senator J. Gbeh-bo Brown, who is the newest Senator to have joined the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change from Maryland County.
