NEC Prepared For Legal
Redress On Results Difference

The National Elections Commission says is a prepared for any legal action from any person or group of persons who may express different view(s) of the results of the just ended senatorial by-election in Lofa County.
Announcing the winner of the just ended senatorial rerun, the election management body’s Chairperson noted, “Any person who believes that the official results are different from what he or she has can avail him or herself for legal process in keeping with Article 3© of the Liberian Constitution.”
The NEC boss said all of the records of the accounts and the tally results are a matter of public record which will be made available for interested persons adding, “The tally results are transmitted to NEC’s headquarters for public announcement.”
Declaring independent candidate Joseph K. Jallah winner of the June 28, 2022 senatorial rerun, Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lasanah said Cllr. Jallah received 22,019 votes which constitutes 36.46% over his fierce rival, former superintendent Galakpai Kotumai who got 21,229 constituting 35.15%.
The NEC’s pronouncement showed that Cllr. Jallah narrowly won Kortimah with a difference of 790 votes which constitutes 1.31%.
Madam Brown observed that total valid votes were 60,394 while invalid votes amount to 2,125 summing the total vote cast to 62,519.
The Lofa County senatorial rerun is a result of an Act of the Legislature which declared the winner in the senatorial mid-election of December 2020, Brownie Samuka’s seat vacant after he was prevented from being certificated by the Supreme Court on criminal charges.
Meanwhile, the NEC said it drawn its attention that since June 30, 2022 announcement of the first tallied results from June 28, 2022 Lofa County Senatorial By-election, there have been attempts by some unknown persons to hack the public service information of the Commission’s website to distort the information and to spread misinformation to the public about the results of the just ended Lofa Senatorial by-election.
The Commission said it has meanwhile informed the Ministry Justice about the matter.
