The National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has expressed dismay in the manner in which unscrupulous individuals are tarnishing the reputation of the Vice President regarding the issuance of a diplomatic passport to Sheik Bassirou Kante, who was recently arrested in the United States of America on allegation of money laundering.
NACSUL, in a press release, said while it is true that Vice President Jewel Howard-Tyalor affirmed her interaction with Sheik Kante, this in no away amounts to her being part of the so-called passport syndicate.
According to the group, since the Office of the Vice President has distanced itself from the saga, it is only prudent for stop tarnishing her reputation amidst ongoing investigation being conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Madam Howard Taylor is an individual of impeccable character, with no stain of bad record. We are of the opinion that the Vice President has no hand in Kante’s passport saga, as she is not in the position to issue passport,” NACSUL’s release noted.
Besides, the group said, the rule of law provides the opportunity for all allegations of wrongdoing to be adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The group described Vice President Taylor as a champion for ensuring the actualization of the rule of law, enhancing democracy and encouraging social corporate responsibilities.
Meanwhile, NACSUL is calling on the committee set up to investigation Sheik Bassirou Kante’s diplomatic passport issue to speedily carry out its task, in order that the names of prominent individuals being accused, including Vice President Howard Taylor are cleared.
They warn the public about falsely accusing people without evidence, noting that it has the propensity of damaging people’s characters, which is tantamount to legal action.
“We are urging the Vice President not be deterred but to remain steadfast in doing what is good and in the interest of the Liberian people,” the NACSUL release added.
