A 38-year-old man identified as Mohammed Fofana alias Laye has been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly killing his eight months old pregnant girlfriend, Aminata Talawally, in Gardnersville, Shoe Factory Community.
City Court’s Magistrate Ben Bacon action came after the Liberia National Police forwarded defendant Fofana for prosecution.
Defendant Fofana’s crime was in violated Chapter 14, Section 14.1 of the Revised Penal Law of Liberia.
The defendant was arrested by the Police and acquainted with his Miranda rights, investigated, and subsequently charged with Murder, for assaulting his girlfriend who was later pronounced dead on arrival by Doctor Kargbo on May 17,
According to the police charge sheet, during the CSD’s in-depth investigation, it was revealed that defendant Fofana and the late Talawally were lovers who had intimacy for over three years though lived at separate locations.
The police charge sheet noted that it was on May 17, between the hours of 4AM, an altercation ensued between the defendant and the deceased in her room in the NTA Community which degenerated into a fight between both of them on allegation that she insulted defendant Fofana’s mother.
The police investigation also established that Talawally fell unconscious during the fight at which time it was revealed that he abandoned his girlfriend knowing that she was already helpless and went away for more than three hours before returning in pretense that he had gone to buy her food money.
The charge sheet said upon the defendant’s arrival at his girlfriend’s house, he met the girl still lying unresponsive and it was at that time he called the community members to see the conditions of his girlfriend in her room.
The charge sheet noted that the community members also observed the victim’s condition to be unresponsive and they informed the Zone Four Police Station in Gardnerville.
According to the charge sheet, based on the information, the Police responded to the scene and accessed the victim’s conditions and thereafter immediately contacted the Homicide Squad at the Central Police Headquarters.
During the police investigation of defendant Fofana attempted to deny his involvement but later admitted based on skillful questioning by the CSD’s investigators as well as the witnesses’ account.
