The Sixth Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court, presided over by Resident Judge Kennedy Peabody, has summoned former Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Deputy Director for Operations Hassan Fadiga and his brother, Hussein Fadiga, over allegations of libel.
The case, filed by former LDEA Director General Abraham Kromah, seeks $3 million in general and special damages.
According to court documents, Kromah is demanding $2 million in special damages, alleging that Hassan Fadiga defamed him by questioning his competence in handling dangerous drugs and contrabands within Liberia.
Kromah also claims that Hassan ignored Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing paramilitary agencies and improperly established a parallel structure within the LDEA.
Regarding Hussein Fadiga, Kromah asserts that he used his platform as a self-proclaimed social commentator and political analyst to spread false allegations.
Specifically, Kromah accuses Hussein of falsely linking him to a notorious Nigerian drug baron known as “Japan” during multiple radio appearances.
Kromah maintains that he was responsible for Japan’s arrest and prosecution before Hassan Fadiga’s appointment at the LDEA, countering the claims made against him.
Kromah has pledged to present evidence proving that Hassan Fadiga was not affiliated with the LDEA at the time of Japan’s arrest.
He argues that the defamatory statements caused significant damage to his reputation and resulted in financial losses.
The court is expected to set a hearing date for the case, as legal proceedings move forward in what could be a landmark defamation lawsuit in Liberia.
