At approximately 11:30 PM on April 5, 2025, officers at the Belefana Joint Security Checkpoint in Bong County made a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking with the arrest of two individuals suspected of transporting illegal drugs.
The primary suspect, Mulbah Forkpah, a 41-year-old Liberian male and resident of Gbarnga City, was apprehended while traveling from Gbarnga, Bong , to Lofa County on a motorbike.
During a routine security inspection, officers discovered 56.7 grams of cocaine and 26.5 grams of kush in his possession.
The street value of the confiscated cocaine is estimated at US$3,060, or approximately LR$581,400, while the Kush is valued at US$530, equivalent to LR$100,700.
According to authorities, following his arrest, Forkpah attempted to contact his accomplice and girlfriend, 46-year-old Frances David, also a resident of Gbarnga.
Investigators quickly traced the communication and, through coordinated efforts, confirmed her involvement in the illicit operation. She was subsequently arrested and placed into custody.
Both Forkpah and David are currently being held by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) as the investigation continues.
They face potential charges related to the illegal possession and distribution of narcotics, pending further legal proceedings.
The LDEA emphasized its unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the spread of narcotics within Liberian communities.
“This operation demonstrates the vigilance of our security personnel and our continued efforts to root out drug trafficking in Liberia,” an LDEA spokesperson stated. “We urge the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity that could jeopardize public safety.”
Authorities are calling this arrest a significant step forward in curbing the drug trade along key transit routes.
