Several disenchanted Unity Party partisans have staged a protest at the Gbarnga Administration Building, calling for the immediate resignation of Bong County Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris.
The protesters in their petition alleged that since Superintendent Norris was appointed Superintendent of Bong County, she has demonstrated a clear pattern of hostility toward the people who worked tirelessly to bring the administration of President Joseph Boakai to power.
” We, the “Rescue Missionaries, have been systematically rejected humiliated, and even denied access to meet with her. Our efforts to engage with her and contribute to the development of our county have been met with contempt and disregard,” George Flomo added as he read their petition.
The disenchanted Unity Party partisans, wearing Unity Party campaign shirts and chanting slogans and waving placards that read, ‘Superintendent Norris Must Go,’ accused Superintendent Norris of marginalizing dedicated Unity Party supporters by appointing opposition figures to key county positions. The demonstrators described the move as a betrayal of grassroots campaigners who helped secure the party’s victory in the 2023 general elections in Bong County.
The aggrieved partisans alleged that Superintendent Norris is working with opposition figures to weaken the Unity Party and its allies in Bong County, fostering division rather than unity.
The disenchanted Unity Party partisans through their spokesman, George Flomo are demanding the immediate removal of Madam Hawa Norris from her position as superintendent of Bong County.
“Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris’s actions are damaging the Unity Party, the government, and the county at large,” George Flomo added. “If we are to succeed, it is imperative that this issue be addressed promptly by President Joseph Boakai.”
The group further claimed that Superintendent Norris had ignored their contributions to the party and shut them out of government appointments.
George Flomo, who read the petition said they deeply regret that they, the young people who stood in the rain and sun campaigning for this party, are being treated with such disrespect.
They further described the behavior of the fourth female Superintendent of Bong County as a “gross neglect” of the Unity Party’s grassroots base in the County.
The protesters, at the same time, alleged that Superintendent Norris refused repeated attempts to engage in dialogue, reportedly telling them that she (Sup. Norris) is not in the County for party issues or purposes.
The group in their 12-counts levied corruption allegations against the Bong County Superintendent, accusing her of misappropriating the county development funds and awarding contracts to favored companies in exchange for kickbacks in the County.
“We calling upon the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Boakai, to take decisive action in relieving Superintendent Norris of her post for her failure to honor the trust and commitment of the very individuals who helped to bring this government to power,” they noted.
The aggrieved Unity Party partisans further gave a one-week ultimatum to the leadership of the party to address their grievances, if not they will stage a huge protest that would disrupt working activity in the County.
Meanwhile, the Unity Party Chair Lady and Regional Gender Coordinator, Viola Cooper Teamah, and the National Liaison for Chiefs and Elders Affairs, William B. S. Kollie, accepted the aggrieved partisans’ 12-counts petition on behalf of the Unity Party Bong County Chapter Chairperson, Martha C.T. Morris.
Madam Teamah and Kollie urged the protesters to remain peaceful as their grievances will be addressed as soon as possible.
However, Superintendent Norris, who was present at the demonstration ceremony on Monday, June 9, 2025, did not make a statement and she is yet to issue a public response up to press time.
