The Society for the Promotion of Peace, National Reconciliation and Reunification, a pro-democracy peace building civil organization, is calling on the council of Patriots, (COP) the Independent Council of Patriots and all Liberians to live by the statutory laws of the republic, in ensuring that the culture of democracy is adhered to for the substance of the national’s fragile peace. According to the national chairman of the pro-democracy group Mr. J. Mayfield Copson, all Liberians should be mindful of not engaging into unlawful acts that will be a recipe for chaos in the country and undermined the twelve years of uninterrupted peace enjoyed by everyone over the year through the intervention and support of the international community.
Mr. Copson further said that while it is the constitutional rights of all Liberians to peacefully assemble at all time to petition their government, equally so it should always be done in accordance with the laws of the republic. Mr. Copson further said that protests over the years have never help to change any situation in the country, but rather caused a massive destruction of properties, infrastructures and took away thousands of lives. Mr. Copson was speaking when he severed as guest speaker during the 26th graduation ceremony of the Professional Skill Training Center, Inc. in Paynesville.
Meanwhile, Mr. Copson is appealing to all Liberians including the opposition to give President George Manneh Weah the chance to execute his national duties and at the same time all Liberians should play their respective roles towards the development and growth of the state in ensuring that the nation’s economy improves for the betterment of every Liberian and not leaving it only with the president.
