The inducted Nimba County Senator, Samuel Kogar, has pledged his unwavering commitment to the interests of both Liberia and his home county, following his induction as a full member of the Liberian Senate.
Kogar, who won a decisive victory in the recent senatorial elections, emphasized his dedication to serving the people of Nimba and the nation as a whole, and assured, “I will never compromise Liberia or Nimba’s interests.”
Kogar was elected Senator by the people of Nimba in April of this year, defeating his main contender, Edith Gongloe-Weh, to fill the county’s vacant seat, following the death of former Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
With tears rolling down his face, the Nimba Senator also vowed to fight for development, honor the legacy of the late Senator Prince Johnson, and deliver on the hopes and aspirations of his constituents.
He said, “I promise today, with every fiber of my being, that I will never compromise your interests or those of our beloved Liberia for anything, because Nimba deserves better, and I will fight to make that a reality. I will not let you down.”
According to the former Nimba District 5 Representative, his vision for the County includes improving infrastructure, enhancing educational opportunities, and fostering economic development.
“You entrusted me with the responsibility to represent you in the House of Representatives, and that decision has set the stage for my growth in national leadership, and I remain eternally grateful and will deliver on all of my promises made during the campaign,” he assured.
Kogar, during his statement, however, reflected on his late Senator, whom he described as their godfather, and said, “He was a man whose influence and legacy still echo across our county and country.”
Crediting his rise to faith, perseverance, and community support, with an expression of gratitude to God and the people who stood with him, said, “The people of Nimba, in your overwhelming numbers, elected me to carry the torch Sen. Johnson once held high. I do not take this lightly.”
Meanwhile, Kogar has also vowed to bring a constructive, bipartisan spirit to the Senate, assuring, “My presence here will be nothing short of positive, and I am here to contribute constructively, collaborate earnestly, and represent passionately in the interest of Liberia and the people of Nimba County.”
The Nimba Senator, at the same time, emphasized the need to support President Joseph Boakai’s government’s national development plan, and thereby urged Senators to act beyond party lines.
He added, “Although I’m a proud member of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), I stand here not just as a partisan politician, but as a national leader. Liberians deserve unity, not division; progress, not politics as usual.”
Earlier, welcoming Sen. Kogar, Senate Pro-Temp, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence said, “On behalf of the Senate, I want to welcome you, Sen. Kogar, to the House of Elders, a place we practice the culture of mutual respect and collaboration.”
“We lead together by respecting the views and opinions of others, as well as hold consultative meetings and follow a clear, defined agenda in the interest of Liberia and our respective constituencies,” she encouraged.
Pro-temp Karnga-Lawrence added that Kogar will be assigned to Senate committees shortly and that the Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration would provide him with Senate rules, procedures, and office space.
