Bong County, District7 Representative Foday Fahnbulleh, has requested the plenary to summon the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minister of Mines and Energy to respond to the situation of water pollution by miners in Fuamah and Sanoyea Districts.
Rep. Fahnbulleh’s communication yesterday read, “I am writing to bring to your attention an urgent matter that requires immediate action from the Legislature. As the Representative of District 7, Bong County, it is my duty to advocate for the well-being and best interests of my constituents.”
According to him, “I wish to inform you about the distressing situation regarding ongoing pollution and mining activities on the St. Paul River. These activities have had a devastating impact on the residents of Fuamah and Sanoyea, who are facing numerous challenges as a result.”
He explained that the pollution and mining activities on the St. Paul River has led to severe environmental degradation, posing grave threats to the health and livelihoods of the affected residents.
Rep. Fahnbulleh added that the water, which is a vital resource for the local communities, has become contaminated, affecting their ability to access clean and safe drinking water while the pollution is causing disruption to the fragile ecosystems, jeopardizing the biodiversity and sustainability of the area.
“In light of these grave concerns, I kindly request your assistance in summoning the presence of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy before the House of Representatives. Their presence would enable them to share detailed information and insights regarding the impact of the ongoing mining activities on the residents of Fuamah and Sanoyea Districts,” he said.
He added, “By soliciting their expertise and knowledge, we can evaluate the true extent of the damage caused by these mining activities and derive appropriate measures to mitigate the negative consequences. It is crucial that we prioritize the protection and well-being of our constituents above all else.”
He continued, “I implore you to act swiftly in organizing a hearing for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy. This action will demonstrate our commitment to addressing these pressing issues and finding sustainable solutions for the affected communities.”
Rep. Fahnbulleh’s communication was forwarded to the Mines and Energy and Health Committee.
