Plan International Donates Motorbikes To Maryland Health Team

A non-governmental organization named Plan International Liberia on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, donated 20 brand-new Yamaha motorbikes to the Maryland County Health Team.

The donation, aimed at enhancing the mobility and efficiency of health workers, was received by Olastford S. Wiah, Director of the Community Health Services Division at the Ministry of Health.

The motorbikes were subsequently turned over to Maryland County Superintendent Henry Cole, who then handed them over to the County Health Officer, represented by Dr. Siedoh Freeman.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Freeman expressed gratitude on behalf of the County Health Team, commending Plan International Liberia and the Community Health Department for their continued support of the health sector.

“On behalf of the Maryland County Health Team, we want to extend our sincere thanks to Plan International Liberia and the Community Health Department for the donation of 20 brand-new motorbikes,” she said. “We assure you that they will be used for their intended purpose—to strengthen healthcare delivery in our communities.”

According to the County Health Team, the motorbikes will be distributed among Community Health Services Supervisors (CHSS), enabling them to better monitor and support clinics and outreach programs, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

Maryland County Superintendent, Henry B. Cole, who also serves as Chair of the County Health Board, praised the donation as timely and impactful.

 “Thanks to Plan International for fulfilling their promise,” said Superintendent Cole. “I am confident that this support will significantly improve our health system and help us respond more effectively to the needs of our people.

The Community Health Services Supervisor(CHSS), Diana A. Mah, who received one of the motorbikes on behalf of her team.

She highlighted the challenges previously faced due to a lack of transportation and emphasized the positive impact the donation will have on their work.

“As a CHSS working in the field, I’m very happy to receive this motorbike,” she said. “Reaching remote communities has been difficult, but with this new mobility, we are now better equipped to meet the expectations of our health mission.”

The donation is part of Plan International Liberia’s broader efforts to support health infrastructure and improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes across the country.
