Over 20 Motorcyclists Released From Central Prison

About 20 motorcyclists who were recently detained for rioting in Sanniquellie have been released thereby creating serious concern among the citizens in the county.
On November 27, 2020, the Liberia National Police arrested 23 motorcyclists in connection to a riot that left the Liberia National Police Station and Gompa Funeral Home damaged in Ganta, Nimba County.
Motorcyclists on November 27, 2020 attacked the city of Ganta in demand of justice for the death of Motorcyclist Samuel Selleh, allegedly killed by a Police Officer Sansee Cole while on patrol in Ganta.
During the demonstration, thousands of motorcyclists set road blocks on the main streets and attacked the police station, Gompa Funeral Home and damaged the two buildings including one LNP vehicle in demand of justice.
Speaking to this paper in Ganta, Oldman William Tuah, pointed accusing fingers at the Magisterial Court for releasing the motorcyclists that damaged government’s properties and even wounded the Police Chief during the riot on November 27, 2020 in Ganta.
Speaking in separate remarks, LNP officers assigned at the Ganta Police Station explained that the roof of the building was completely damaged during the riot.
According to the LNP, the Charge of Quarters, the two CSD offices, cell and the Commander’s office are profusely leaking as a result of the riot.
When contacted the City Solicitor Stephen Quoi, via mobile at the Magisterial Court in Ganta via mobile phone, he confirmed that over 21 motorcyclists were out of prison through surety bonds and the case is expected to resume anytime this week.
When contacted the County Attorney John Miah, at the 8th Judiciary Circuit Court in Sanniquellie frowned over the release of the motorcyclists without the knowledge of his office.
He added that during his recent visit at the Central Prison in Sanniquellie, he discovered that over 20 of the motorcyclists charged with eight counts by the Police for riot have been released by the court in Ganta without his knowledge as the government’s prosecutor in the county.
