The District Education Officer (DEO) of Gbarnga School District 1, Bong County, David Gbokay, has announced that no high school in the district is eligible to hold a graduation ceremony this year.
During a press conference recently, Mr. Gbokay stated that this decision is in line with the Ministry of Education’s mandate, which requires students to pass at least five subjects in the 2024 WASSCE, including Math and English, in order to graduate.
However, after reviewing the results from all high schools in the district, none of them met the full requirement.
“Although some students passed more than five subjects, none passed both Math and English, which are compulsory for graduation,” Mr. Gbokay revealed.
Therefore, he is urging high school administrators to comply with the Ministry’s directive and refrain from organizing unauthorized graduation ceremonies.
The Ministry of Education has warned that violators will face an uncomfortable fine.
On the other hand, students who passed in the school are allowed to collect their academic documents, such as diplomas, letters of recommendation, and transcripts.
The high schools in Gbarnga School District 1 that participated in the 2024 WASSCE include: Dolokelen Gboveh High School, John Flomo Bakalu High School, CAN Leadership Academy (Triple A), Sumo Moye Memorial Institute, St. Mark’s Lutheran, St. Peter’s Episcopal, Zuannah Memorial, Dominion Institute, World Overcomer, and A.G High School.
On a positive note, Mr. Gbokay reported excellent results from ninth graders, with 99.9% successfully passing and advancing to the 10th grade.
This announcement indicates the Ministry’s dedication to upholding academic standards throughout the country.
