The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Ansu Dulleh, has convened a crucial meeting with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Team.
This initiative is part of NDMA’s broader outreach strategy aimed at mobilizing resources for communities at risk and those affected by disasters.
During the meeting, Dulleh articulated his strategic vision for the NDMA, emphasizing the critical need for collaboration with partners across various sectors.
“Rebuilding confidence among our partners is crucial for effective disaster response and recovery,” he stated. He outlined the agency’s comprehensive mandate, which encompasses all aspects of disaster management from preparedness and response to recovery efforts.
Dulleh highlighted the NDMA’s commitment to promoting awareness in vulnerable communities and training volunteers to take proactive measures.
“The NDMA Act mandates us to coordinate resource mobilization for preparedness, risk reduction, and vulnerability programs among government entities, donors, NGOs, and other partners,” he explained.
The FAO responded positively, commending Dulleh for the NDMA’s achievements under his leadership. The agency expressed its strong desire to strengthen ties with the NDMA, acknowledging the agency’s effective outreach efforts.
As a result of their discussions, the FAO committed to providing international specialized training for NDMA staff and additional technical support, further reinforcing its commitment to bolstering the agency’s operational capabilities.
This meeting represents a pivotal step in solidifying essential partnerships that are crucial for effective disaster management and response in the region.
The FAO, a specialized UN agency, aims to achieve food security and ensure access to sufficient high-quality food for all, highlighting the interconnectedness of food security and disaster resilience.
With this strengthened collaboration, both the NDMA and FAO are poised to make significant strides in enhancing the resilience of communities facing the threat of disasters.
