The Minister of Foreign Affair, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, emphasized the nation’s commitment to defense diplomacy and regional collaboration as critical components of sustainable development and Peacebuilding.
Minister Nyanti delivered these remarks when she officially welcomed a high-level delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, visiting Liberia as part of their Africa Study Tour.
The delegation comprised over 25 senior Ghanaian military officers, faculty members, and government officials from Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of President Joseph Boakai, the government and people of Liberia under the theme,‘Climate Change, Environment, and Development’, Minister Nyanti lauded the visit as a strategic step toward enhancing inter-military and diplomatic engagement within the West African sub-region.
She added that the visit served as a platform for broad discussions on the intersection of natural resource governance, security, and inclusive growth.
Minister Nyanti highlighted Liberia’s position within ECOWAS and the African Union, stating that multilateral cooperation is vital to addressing transnational challenges, including climate change, migration, and regional instability.
She pointed to the ARREST Agenda focused on Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism as Liberia’s blueprint for national resilience, emphasizing that it is more than a development framework but a strategic call to empower citizens and institutions.
“Climate change is not only an environmental issue it’s a matter of national and regional security,” she stressed.
Citing early climate science warnings from Svante Arrhenius and Edward Teller, Nyanti highlighted the long-standing global awareness of carbon emissions and their consequences.
Brigadier General Owusu, who led the Ghanaian delegation, applauded Liberia’s leadership and the timeliness of the visit, noting that such engagements strengthen Africa’s collective readiness to face shared threats.
The visit highlighted Liberia’s diplomatic stance on climate and development, and spotlighted the growing role of military diplomacy in fostering regional stability and sustainable progress.
