After months of intensive hands-on training and guided practical experience in several technical and vocational disciplines, the Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC) is poised to graduate 175 trainees in its Monrovia Program this weekend.
The center known as the country’s leading entity for opportunities industrialization will be integrating into the job market professionals in basic trades in other to empower them and create jobs around by the uses of hands work and mind development.
In an exclusive interview with Inquirer Newspaper on Wednesday May 7, 2025 at his office, LOIC’s National Executive Director Rufus Monroe explained that the institution has completed its 29th circle of training across the country and will host its third graduation ceremony for 2025 in Monrovia on Friday May 9, 2025.
Director Monroe said, this year, LOIC conducted decentralized graduation activities in the just ended circle affording trainees from different counties the opportunity to formally sit in a souvenir program following their conclusive training calendar.
“LOIC is preparing to graduate 175 students in its Monrovia program and this will be the third graduation held in 2025 counting from the first in Bong County, the second in Grand Bassa and now Monrovia,” he said.
According to him, over the years from its establishment, the center had provided quality skills training opportunities to different Liberians in its programs and the pending graduation will serve as one of the many tools LOIC have used to qualify young men and women in different sectors of the job market.
He explained that the training program begins with an assessment in different places to identify the needed training for available opportunities.
This then prepares trainers to appropriately roll out the disciplines to be administered in every circle.
With the previous assessment done in Monrovia, Director Rufus Monroe noted that the institution was able to identify the needs for the training circle in building trade, electricity, plumbing, tailoring, cosmetology, beautician auto mechanic, along with Air conditioning and Refrigeration.
He asserted that all of these disciplines were tackled and those graduating on Friday have received the required trainings that qualified them to work with hiring entities or even establishing their own platforms to effectively practice these skill sets.
“LOIC is distinct and very unique in providing technical and vocational education to those that participate in the opportunities we manage for them across the country.
Those graduating are in this circle like all of our past circles are equipped enough to empower themselves and others,” he noted.
The executive director, explained that technical education is important for countries such as Liberia while encouraging young people to take advantage of the new circle that will kickoff weeks after the pending graduation.
He testified to the role of LOIC in his personal capacity building which prepared him for the service he rendered while serving institutions to include the European Union Delegation to Liberia.
“There are lots of advantages in getting skill training from LOIC and I encourage young people to form part of the upcoming circle. You can do trade and get jobs in different disciplines and empower yourself,” he said.
