After months of conversation to get back to the playing pitch, Liberia Shipping and Cooperate Registry (LISCR) Football Club has recaptured the signature of Anthony Lafford as an addition to its squad for the upcoming National first Division league Season Starting October 16, 2024 across the country.
LISCR FC, a top-tier team in the Liberian Football Association First Division, has confirmed the return of former national team captain Anthony Laffor, sparking excitement among Liberian football fans.
Laffor, widely regarded as one of Liberia’s finest football experts, is set to begin featuring again for LISCR FC, the club he once represented early in his career.
In an official statement last weekend in Monrovia, LISCR FC expressed their delight at Laffor’s homecoming, announcing that the former CAF Champions League winner has signed a two-year deal with the “Shipping Boys.”
“We are delighted to announce the return of Anthony Snoti Laffor,” the club said. “He joins the Shipping Boys on a two-year deal. Laffor played for LISCR FC before his international career, which took him to Goldfields SC in Ghana, Jomo Cosmos, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Chippa United in South Africa.”
The club underscored Laffor’s decorated career, noting his achievements, including seven South African Premier Soccer League titles, a South African Cup, a CAF Champions League title in 2016, and a CAF Super Cup.
Laffor returns to Liberian football after an illustrious professional career at the highest levels, particularly in South Africa, where he became a household name. His time with Mamelodi Sundowns saw him win multiple league titles and earned him continental glory with the CAF Champions League victory. Laffor’s impact on African football has been significant, and now, he is bringing that wealth of experience back to Liberia.
Speaking during his unveiling, Laffor shared his motivation for returning home: “It feels great to be back where it all started. I have always been proud to represent Liberia internationally, but now I want to give back to the country and the team that gave me my first platform. There’s nowhere like home. I’m in a better space.”
Laffor’s return is seen as a major boost for LISCR FC, which has been a consistent contender in the Liberian First Division. The club hopes his leadership and experience will help propel them to domestic success and enhance their performance in continental competitions.
As LISCR FC prepares for the 2024 season, Laffor’s presence is expected to have a positive influence on the younger players in the squad. His experience, coupled with his desire to develop football in Liberia, has created high expectations for the upcoming season. For Laffor, this return is more than just a homecoming—it’s a chance to inspire and shape the future of Liberian football.
All eyes will be on LISCR FC and Anthony Laffor as they embark on what many hope will be a thrilling and successful l campaign in the Liberian First Division.
