The Liberian Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) has announced the launch of Aviation Awareness Week, taking place from May 5-9, 2025.
The initiative aims to shine a spotlight on the vital role aviation plays in Liberia’s economic development, national integration, and global connectivity.
The week of activities will officially kick off on Monday, May 5, 2025 with an elaborate opening ceremony at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
The event is expected to draw key stakeholders from government ministries, international development partners, private sector aviation operators, students, and the general public.
The Director General of the LCAA, Julius Dennis joined by senior managers and staff at MICAT, emphasized the event’s purpose: to foster a deeper understanding of the aviation sector and to build public trust in air transportation through education, engagement, and collaboration.
“This is a landmark initiative. Aviation is not just about airports and airplanes—it’s a powerful engine for economic growth, job creation, tourism, trade, and national unity. Through this awareness week, we aim to open the skies of opportunity for every Liberian,” he said.
According to him, throughout the week, a series of high-impact activities will be held across Monrovia and surrounding areas including the Public sessions will provide insights into the roles and responsibilities of critical aviation institutions, including the LCAA, Liberian Airport Authority (LAA), Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), and the Roberts Flight Information Region (RFIR). These agencies are central to maintaining safe, secure, and efficient air travel in Liberia and the region.
He added that the activities will be open to students, professionals, and aviation enthusiasts, these workshops will provide hands-on learning experiences in areas like air traffic control, aviation safety standards, airport operations, and aircraft maintenance.
He noted that the special visits to local schools and universities will introduce students to the world of aviation, with motivational talks, career guidance, and interactive demonstrations designed to spark interest in aviation careers.
While using radio, TV, social media, and community forums, the LCAA will lead educational campaigns to increase public understanding of aviation safety, travel regulations, and the benefits of a strong aviation sector.
He disclosed that roundtable discussions and policy dialogues will bring together government representatives, airline operators, international aviation bodies, and local entrepreneurs to explore challenges and opportunities in Liberia’s aviation landscape.
The LCAA said this initiative reflects its mandate not only to regulate and oversee the aviation industry but also to inspire a new generation of professionals and promote responsible, inclusive development.
The Director General encouraged every Liberian to take part in the week’s events, stating, “Whether you’re a student dreaming of becoming a pilot, a business owner curious about how aviation can help you grow, or simply a citizen eager to learn more; this week is for you. Join us as we chart a new course for aviation in Liberia. Together, we will make our nation soar.”
