The Director-General of the Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), Stephen Mambu, has reiterated the agency’s strong commitment to advancing consumer protection, promoting fair trade, and supporting national economic growth through strengthened quality infrastructure.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Mambu highlighted that the Liberia Standards Act validated in 2018 and operationalized in 2024formally establishes LiSA as the nation’s official standards body.
The Act authorizes LiSA to provide essential services such as inspection, certification, metrology, and the development of national standards, all vital to Liberia’s development agenda.
“Standardization isn’t just about compliance it’s about safeguarding your health, finances, rights, and future,” Mambu stated.
He noted that LiSA’s mission is closely aligned with President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, which focuses on delivering more accessible and people-centered government services.
LiSA is actively partnering with both public and private institutions, including the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), and ECOWAS, to ensure that Liberian goods can meet international standards.
The agency is placing special emphasis on supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), protecting the environment, and upholding consumer rights.
Key priorities for LiSA include expanding certification services, conducting training programs, and raising public awareness. The agency also aims to work closely with procurement bodies to ensure that quality is prioritized in public expenditures.
“We are responsible for regulating measurements nationwide ensuring that consumers get exactly what they pay for, whether it’s a gallon of fuel or a pound of meat,” Mambu added.
With these initiatives, LiSA is positioning itself as a critical driver of Liberia’s participation in regional and global markets, while fostering transparency and accountability in commercial practices.
