The LIB Youth Empowerment Organization is celebrating the recent graduation of its first cohort of 94 youths.
The event, held at the Giddings Polyethnic in Kakata, marked the conclusion of a rigorous six-month vocational training program that equipped the youths with essential skills in event decoration, cosmetology, pastry, and electricity.
Founded in 2023 by a collective of passionate young Liberians, the LIB Youth Empowerment Organization aims to bridge the skills gap among the youth and pave the way for meaningful employment opportunities.
Chris D. Kangar, the organization’s coordinator, highlighted that the initiative is generously supported by major sponsor Madam Tenezee Stulle, who currently resides in the diaspora.
“The establishment of this program reflects our commitment to empowering our youth through vocational education. These graduates represent the next wave of skilled professionals who will contribute to our nation’s progress,” Chris explained.
During the ceremony, Kangar urged the graduates to take full advantage of the training they received.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing their new skills to pursue employment opportunities rather than allowing themselves to be drawn into the political fray.
“To all my graduates here today,” he said, “do not make your education to be a vacation that will lead you to a provocation. You possess the skills to create change in your lives and communities.”
In addition to celebrating the successes of the graduates, the LIB Youth Empowerment Organization is already looking towards the future as plans are underway to expand the program into other regions, particularly targetingWeala, lower Margibi, and Bong County.
According to Kangar, plans are also underway for other courses including soap making, tailoring, refrigeration repair, and computer program to be added, further diversifying the vocational offerings available to local youths.
He expressed a heartfelt call for support from both national and international entities, appealing to non-governmental organizations, the Liberian Government, and potential partners to help foster the organization’s growth and outreach.
“When we invest in our youth, we invest in the future of our country,” Kangar stated. “We are determined to expand our reach and empower even more young people with the skills they need to thrive.”
The successful graduation event not only celebrated individual accomplishments but also emphasized the necessity of providing ongoing support and resources to ensure that these young individuals can navigate their paths to success in a rapidly evolving job market.
As the echoes of applause and cheers filled the air at the Giddings Polyethnic, the graduates left with a renewed sense of purpose, carrying their newfound skills into the world, ready to make their mark.
