The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has reported two separate arrests in its ongoing crackdown on illegal drug activities, leading to the seizure of controlled substances valued at over L$127,000.

On Monday, June 9, 2025, agents from the LDEA Gbarpolu County Detachment apprehended 30-year-old Mohammed Flomo at the Bopolu checkpoint around 5:08 PM.

Flomo, a resident of Bopolu City, was allegedly found in possession of two boxes of Tramadol, totaling 20 strips, a controlled substance under Liberian law.

Following a preliminary investigation, Flomo was charged with Unlicensed Possession of Controlled Substances and Unlicensed Sale, Trading, Administration, Dispensing, and Delivery of Controlled Substances—both violations of Sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the recently amended Drug Law of Liberia.

The drugs seized from Flomo have an estimated street value of L$40,000 (approximately US$202.02). He has since been forwarded to the Bopolu City Magistrate Court for trial.

In a separate operation just two days prior, on June 7, 2025, LDEA officers from the Grand Cape Mount County Detachment conducted a routine search at the Gbah Police Checkpoint around 3:15 PM.

During the operation, officers arrested 29-year-old Mohammed Kromah, a resident of Daniel’s Town.

Kromah was found in possession of three compressed plates of marijuana weighing approximately 2.5 kilograms and 20 tablets of Tramadol.

Authorities estimate the street value of the confiscated substances at L$87,500 (about US$460.26).

He has been charged and forwarded to the Madina Magisterial Court for prosecution.

The LDEA praised its officers for their continued vigilance and emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating the growing drug threat.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities. All reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the agency stated in a press release. Both cases underscore the LDEA’s commitment to enforcing Liberia’s drug laws and safeguarding communities from the dangers of illicit substances.
