An executive member of Liberia Athletics Federation, Federick Bobby Krah is seeking a balanced reportorial functionality by the local sporting media across all federations in Liberia.
The vice president of the athletics federation wants members of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia to spread the coverage of sporting programs to other disciplines rather than having a sector only focused on reports about football.
Krah’s suggestion signaled that there are many issues faced within other federations that need the attention of the public but the media has chosen to only run after things happening in football.
According to him, a general categorization of the Sports Writers Association that makes them responsible to have all disciplines in the sporting industry covered and discussed in the public space and media platforms have been reduced to only report football and a bit of kickball.
Speaking at the 2025 Awards ceremony of the sports writing body, Krah expressed passion for Athletics urging SWAL members and the mass media to support its development and inform the public of its workings.
He explained that Athletics is a primary discipline that introduces every human species’ fitness because it deals with walks and runs.
“The first Sport you play in your whole life is athletics, the child will learn to walk and run before they start throwing the ball or holding it.”
“The sports writers association has been limited to the football writers association. For over years I have heard and read less than 10% of the other federations in publications of the sports writers and this is unfortunate. Let sports be prioritized at all levels,” he said.
He however acknowledged that there are no sports in any part of the world that competes with football due to the popularity of its followings and progress made over the years but challenged the media to show support to all.
He challenged those in the practice of sports writing to have at least 10 percent of football coverage now shifted to other sporting disciplines to make the sector graciously inclusive as required for all Liberians.
To support the working of the sporting media, Krah made a financial commitment on behalf of the federation in a fundraiser to assist the Sports Writers Association in undertaking some basic initiative by the leadership.
SWAL hosted its first annual awards ceremony in more than ten years at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City on Friday May 23, 2025.
