The House of Representatives has restated its firm and unwavering support for the work of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), underscoring the vital role the regional body plays in promoting democratic governance, regional integration, and sustainable development.
Speaking at the opening session of the ongoing ECOWAS Delocalized Joint Committee Meeting in Monrovia, Rep. Sekou Kanneh, Chairman on Executive of the House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of the committee’s discussions, highlighting their direct impact on the socioeconomic future of the West African sub-region.
“The Liberian Legislature, under the leadership of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, stands solidly with ECOWAS in its mission to drive economic growth, peace, and stability throughout the region,” Rep. Kanneh stated.
He described the Joint Committee Meeting centered on macroeconomic policy, fiscal accountability, youth empowerment, and job creation as especially timely, given the current challenges facing the region, including post-COVID recovery, shifting geopolitical dynamics, and the rising expectations of young people.
“These deliberations are of great regional relevance. We are confident they will guide inclusive policy making and help lay the foundation for a more prosperous future for all West Africans,” he added.
The House pledged continued collaboration with Liberia’s ECOWAS Parliamentary Delegation to ensure the effective implementation of recommendations and policy frameworks resulting from the Monrovia session.
The ECOWAS Delocalized Meeting runs through June 20, 2025, bringing together lawmakers, technical experts, and observers from across the sub-region to tackle shared challenges and develop coordinated solutions.
