Heightening Women Football Progress …Female Lone Star Off To Gambia For Int’l Friendlies

In the wake of heightening momentum of women’s football under the Mustapha Raji led-administration, a 30-member Liberia Football Association (LFA) female U-20 delegation has departed the country for two international friendlies in Banjul, The Gambia.
The trip is Liberia’s first women’s football international showpiece under the FA’s new regime as part of its ongoing improvement promised by President Raji prior to his ascendency as LFA boss.
According to a dispatch from the local football house, Liberia will play The Gambian U-20 national team on August 6 and 9 respectively. The Banjul’s friendly was made possible through the instrumentality of LFA boss Raji who earlier arranged with his Gambian counterparts as part of efforts to expose the youthful female football talents on the international scene.
Prior to his ascendency, President Raji promised to accelerate and explore every effort that seeks to improve the women football category of Liberian football. The international friendly is the latest in decades to have happened for women football at the LFA.
Recently, a LEAD-MFA U-15 team returned home from the United States of America with a giant size trophy following a splendid performance in an organized tournament. The female U-15 team triumphed on a foreign soil as their overwhelming displays were sufficient to capture the trophy over their US-based counterparts.
Their USA success was a boost for women’s football development in Liberia as several local and international pundits cautioned Liberia to welcome the LEAD-MFA U-15 team’s success as a step in the right direction for Liberia’s women football development programs.
As a way of ensuring such progress, the local football house initiated arrangements with several countries as part of ongoing networking processes for Liberia’s women football program. The Gambia accepted to host Liberia in a two-legged women football friendly.
Meanwhile, Liberia’s delegation headed by LFA Executive Committee member (ECM) Cllr. Joseph M. Kollie included Jodie Reid-Seton, women’s football representative to the FA Executive Committee and journalist Edwin Boyd Dolo of Renaissance Communications Incorporated.
Other members of the delegation are, head coach Robert Lartey, Deputy Coach Famatta Dean, Goalkeeper Coach Robertson Warner, Administrative Manager Gayduo Princess Kennedy, physiotherapist Patrick Konuwa, medic Lydia Grant Boi and caretaker Constance Miama Bowman-Prempeh.
The technical staff, which has been working for more than three weeks, selected the 20 players who underwent medical and physical examinations and successful training sessions.
They were firstly selected from clubs that participated in the 2019 LFA female league.
