Goalkeeper Williams Leaves LISCR -Eyes Comeback To Lone Star

41

After nearly a decade guarding the posts for LISCR Football Club, Liberian international goalkeeper Ashley Williams has officially turned the page on a transformative chapter in his life, ending a nine-year stint with the Shipping Boys in pursuit of new opportunities and a return to the national spotlight.
Now 26, Williams joined LISCR as a teenager, and in the years since, he grew not just into the club’s defensive anchor but one of the most respected figures in Liberian football.
From domestic titles to dramatic saves in high-stakes moments, Williams’ name became synonymous with success at one of the country’s most competitive clubs.
But this week, his name headlines a different story telling the world of his departure with ambition, and hope for better life in sports to undisclosed destination.
“I needed to make this move for my career,” Williams told reporters shortly after his exit was confirmed.
“To compete for a national team spot again, I have to step outside of the comfort zone I’ve known for so long.”
The timing of the move was no surprise to club officials.
Williams had informed LISCR of his decision a month prior, citing national team selection dynamics as a driving factor which was particularly the challenge of earning a call-up when another LISCR keeper is already in the squad.
During his time at the club, Williams matured from a promising 17-year-old into a captain and locker room leader, guiding LISCR to multiple league titles and cup victories.
His vocal presence, quick reflexes, and calm command of the box earned him recognitions not just from coaches and teammates but also from opposing strikers who often found him an immovable wall.
Reflecting on his journey, Williams was both emotional and proud.
“We’ve built something special here and it is not just trophies, but a family.
I’m forever grateful for that,” he wrote in a farewell message posted to his social media accounts.
His departure, along with that of teammates Mark Karlay, John Momo, Prince Bono, and Darius Kay, signals the start of a new era at LISCR FC.
The club has expressed gratitude for their contributions, highlighting the professionalism and heart that defined Williams’ tenure.
As for what’s next, Williams remains tight-lipped about his destination but promises an announcement soon.
Sources close to the player suggest interest from clubs both within and outside Liberia.
In the goalkeeping areas of LISCR, Tommy Songo remains apparently dependable in the absence of the Williams who believes he had been continuously cut from national team appearance due to presence of an experienced keeper in the same squad with him.
