Members of the Global Methodist Church have besieged the Gompa Methodist mission station compound in Nimba County.
Speaking to the Inquirer Newspaper, the Mayor of Gompa City, Samuel Hardt, said he received complaint from Zawolo Zuogele and other that their lives were in danger and they have been threatened by members of the Global Methodist church in the district.
According to mayor Hardt, UMC members complained to his office that Global Methodist. church members backed by motorcyclist forcefully locked the main entrance of the office along with the workers in the building.
“The situation undermined peace and stability of this country, I call you here to appeal to you to remain calm, don’t go to the hospital compound or the school compound,” Samuel Hardt Gompa mayor pointed out.
“The attention of the administration of the Gompa City Cooperation (GCC) has been drawn to the conflict and action by locking the mission station’s compound, removing trades mark of UMC from the building is prohibited under the law,” Mayor Hardt revealed.
Speaking further, the , lay-leader of the Mount Nimba Global Church, J. Morris Neaquoi explained that Zawolo Zuogele and other staffers appointed by Bishop Samuel Quire are illegally occupying Global Methodist Church’s property and operating as principal of Ganta united Methodist Senior High School.
“We will not go now to the hospital or the school until school is closed. We don’t want Bishop Quire appointees at the hospital and any other staff appointed by the Bishop to work in the district will not be allowed,” J. Morris Neaquoi, lay- leader of Mount Nimba Global Methodist stated.
When this outlet contacted the administrator of the Methodist Hospital Allen Zomonway, on the issue, he expressed fear that the hospital is under threat in the wake of the crisis.
“We are worried and afraid over the growing tension going on at the hospital which is catering to many critical patients here at various medical wards. We don’t know what will happen next,” Allen Zomonway Hospital administrator stated.
When contacted, the commander of LNP in Gompa, Christopher Mansuo, disclosed that religious crisis is breeding tension between UMC and Global Methodist Church members in Nimba and is creating serious concern among the residents in the county.
“Global Methodist Church members this morning locked building at the UMC mission station along with the staff but were later released by LNP,” Commander Mansuo revealed.
