A prominent daughter of Sanoyea District now residing in the United States, Demenia Gbarbea, urged the Margibi Women Alliance for Peace and Development (MARWAPD) at their recent convention in Margibi County to embrace unity as a pathway to empowerment and success.
Speaking over the weekend, Dr. Gbarbea emphasized the importance of collaboration among women, stating that togetherness fosters creativity and innovation.
She highlighted the significant roles women have played both globally and in Liberia, reminding the audience of the immense contributions made by notable female figures in the country’s history.
Dr. Gbarbea referenced iconic Liberian women such as Madam Angie Elizabeth Brooks, the first female lawyer in Liberia and the first woman to preside over the United Nations Assembly, as well as Madam Suakoko, a warrior known for her efforts in land negotiations for Liberia.
She also celebrated former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first female president, and Leymah Gbowee, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has made substantial contributions to Liberia’s growth and development.
“Unity is very strong,” Dr. Gbarbea declared, stressing that collaboration, respect, and diversity are essential for overcoming the societal barriers women face, particularly those imposed by gender stereotypes.
She encouraged the women to recognize that their collective strength can lead to greater achievements, stating, “When a woman succeeds, a community succeeds, a society succeeds.”
Dr. Gbarbea urged the women to share resources, network, and not shy away from asking for help, as the support of one another could mean the difference in achieving their goals.
She emphasized that unity is not merely about solidarity but is rooted in empowerment and the recognition that each woman’s success contributes to the greater good.
The call to action was clear: women must participate actively in the organization’s initiatives, irrespective of their educational backgrounds.
“Unity does not require one sitting aside; it requires hard work and active involvement,” she said, encouraging every woman to prioritize their beliefs and aspirations.
Her commitment to supporting the women of Margibi County extends beyond her physical presence, as she assured them of her ongoing support regardless of her location.
Dr. Gbarbea’s address resonated deeply with the attendees, inspiring many to reflect on their roles in fostering unity and empowerment among women in Liberia.
As the convention concluded, the message was clear: through solidarity and support, the women of Margibi County can achieve great things and continue the legacy of those who paved the way before them.
