All counties’ teams that won their opening fixture at the kickoff of the National County Sports Meet are today going to the second match day with an advantage in their respective group and will celebrate qualification to the quarterfinal if a second win is collected.
The 2023/2024 national county sports meet is currently taking place across the country and several teams were able to have victory during the opening which places them ahead to push for another victory in match two of the preliminary round.
In the football category, Sinoe, Montserrado, Bomi and Rivercess Counties won their first matches to get three points ahead while Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Bong Nimba, Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties all shared spoils on different score lines.
During the opening Maryland, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu and Grand Kru fell to the fresh hands of defeat creating the toughest barriers for them before the remaining matches in the group stage or preliminaries.
In kickball, a single draw was recorded in the lone match that was played at the Nancy Doe Sports Pitch in Kakata City where the host, Margibi and Grand Bassa, failed to break the homeless build for them from the initial stage of the match.
The two sides showed solid defense of the three bases in the diamond and had their key focus on restricting which attacker gets to the home.
The scenario made the coaches of both counties to continuously walk along the foul-line calling on players to penetrate their way through for a home run but to no avail untill the match ended homeless.
At other venues, the following scores were recorded as follow; Maryland won Sinoe 1-0 while Rivergee won Grand Gedeh 2-0 in Fish Town; in Sanniquillie city, Nimba welcomed Bong County with a 10-1 victory. Rivercess Won Grand Kru 7-0 at the same venue and Bomi defeated Cape Mount 5-2 and Gbarpolu defeated Montserrado 2-1 at the Antionette Tubman Stadium.
