Continental Scrabble President Visit Liberia Ahead Of 2026 Championship

The president of the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) Adekoyejo Adegbesan is currently honoring a visiting mission to Liberia ahead of the continental 2026 African Scrabble Championship.
The leading body for Scrabble across the continent is aiming to host the competition at an advanced stage where more than 30 countries across Africa will converge in Monrovia at its environs to participate in the anticipating event.
According to PANASA, its president Adegbesan visit to Liberia is a confirmation that the Scrabble Association of the country has been positively engaged in recent years to have the board game rapidly develop in its territorial limits and beyond.
Speaking at a media interaction in Sinkor when the Africa Youth Championship Trophy tour reached Monrovia, PANASA president lauded the local game body for its active engagement programs to keep scrabble in the land at a recognizable level.
He said, Liberia National Scrabble Association has made the game vibrant calling the attention of the continental body to make a stop with the trophy tour while having few interactions with different stakeholders in regards to the successful planning of the 2026 African Scrabble championship.
“We were here initially for the African Youth Championship Trophy tour. The youth championship comes up in August. Because of that, the trophy travels across Africa and only to countries that are very vibrant with the scrabble game and in West Africa, Liberia is bursting with that at the moment,” he disclosed.
He added that the country also successfully completed the bidding process beating other countries to host the pending African championship which further highlights the growing administrative management with the current leadership of the local scrabble association.
“We have a checklist that is very detailed for countries to submit bids to host the African Scrabble Championship and Liberia has what it takes. The bid for the 16th edition for next year was won by Liberia and the facility needed for the competition is at the ministerial complex,” Adegbesan intimated.
The continental scrabble administrator asserted that there are several benefits for the country to host the event with hundreds of different nationals moving in for economic and other boost while the event will be taking place.
He encouraged young people across the country to wake up to the reality that scrabble is a game that empowers their learning activities and advances their English and Spelling skills at a very fast rate.
For his part, the president of Liberia Scrabble Association Lester Morris welcomed the PANSA president committing position on making sure that the game is preserved for generations to follow and enjoy.
Morris said, despite the long-time cries for financial support from government they are ready to ensure that the budgetary allotment to the association be used for the best to have more attention to the game and event from others.
At the same time, he added that the federation will remain focused with its major programs to keep players and others constantly engaged in scrabble throughout the country.
