Bishop Donyen Gives US$20,000 To Disabled

In an effort to address the many challenges being faced by some members of the disabled community in Liberia, the Bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), has given US$20,000 to the Mission of Hope for the disabled.

He disclosed that the money is in fulfillment of a promise that the Compassion for Life (CfL), USA made through its Chairman of the Board, Mr. Strine when a delegation of CfL Members visited the mission in September of 2022.

Bishop Donyen made the disclosure on the campus of the mission during the week in Rehab Community of District # 2, Montserrado County as he presented a check of US$10,000 to the authorities which was the final payment of US$20,000 that was paid in three installments.

According to him, the CfL consented to provide the money upon receipt of a documented request from the leadership that cataloged horrible challenges confronting their lives on a daily basis saying that the American Humanitarian Group saw the need for its timely intervention because most of the buildings on the campus were in a dilapidated state.

When it rains, the inner and outer parts of the buildings become flooded and the campus also becomes criminal-infested due to lack of complete fence to protect the disabled of the mission along with their properties.

He disclosed that it irritated the donors as to why some people could act in such a manner by obstructing interventions that could address conditions of the needy in society and they departed the country.

He further stated that the delegation was scheduled to visit Palm Bush, New Israel, Police Station, Nickley Town among other places urging residents of communities in the district to work together because those projects that people are preventing them from benefiting will be theirs in the very near future.

The Executive Director (ED) of the mission, Victor S. Wilson extended  exceptional gratitude to the CfL for the tremendous humanitarian services it continues to render the under privileged including the people who are living with disabilities terming the gesture as a dream come true.

“CfL also gave us 25bags of 25kg bags of rice with US$600 after the devastating Corona virus Disease,” he stated.

He explained that the first and second installments of US$10,000 were used to recondition the Our Lady of Fatima Elementary, Junior and Senior High School, the guest house including the molding of bricks for the construction of the school’s fence.

According to him, they considered the fence project as their heartbeat as its absence has been an opportunity for criminals who had been terrorizing the campus under the cover of darkness.

The ED then stressed that the completion of the fence will bring genuine relief to the entire campus and its residents adding that the girls and kids are the most affected due to the fact that the former are often put at knife point and their phones taken away during launch time while the students’ food are sometimes snatched away by thieves.

“They have been tormenting the compound to the extent that we were forced to abandon our kitchen and started cooking in our rooms because they come overnight and steal our utensils from the kitchen; they also established a ghetto behind the girls’ dormitory, a situation that is indeed scary.

Besides that, they dug the wire that pumps the water to the tower by means of solar energy including the electric wire, and as the result, we don’t have current and water. However, we would like to pay special homage to Compassion for Life, USA and the Bishop for the marvelous contributions aimed at shaping our living condition,” he indicated.

Speaking further, the head of the mission lauded Bishop Donyen for being sincere noting that it is the reason reputable Humanitarian group like the CfL is in partnership with him to implement their sponsored projects in the country and commended him for demonstrating patriotism.

“You built wooden bridges, market buildings including community roads’ rehabilitation; you offered scholarships as well as gave micro loans to marketers as empowerment; provision of pandemic prevention materials through the sponsorship of CfL that impacted many community residents, so the mission is honoring today by gowning you as a sign of appreciation,” the ED said.

The Chairman of the Friends of Bishop Donyen, Garflehn Town, Kartobiaplay Nyewan said that the residents of Garflehn Town are delighted for the numerous development initiatives that Bishop Donyen has been carrying out being funded by the CfL, USA in various communities in District # 2, Montserrado County.

He indicated that Bishop Donyen has proven to be selfless and always concerned about lobbying in order to find solutions to the medley of challenges that are affecting people and so they also gowned him so as to motivate him continue the good work.

“You brought pipe borne water for the residents who are in need of pure, safe drinking water but we only tasted it and people with evil minds denied the underprivileged from benefiting.

They also defaced the billboards of your projects but we are with you so that shouldn’t deter you as we will ever remain appreciative for your countless philanthropic gestures shown us,” he averred.

As a testament of the people of Garflehn Town’s support; they presented a bag of campaign T-shirts and a banner to enhance the political activities of the Bishop.

Chairman Nyenwan however urged the public to support people who have the gift of lobbying and contacts for them to attract development in the communities because it’s God-given.
