In an exhilarating display of football prowess, Wologizi Football Club, based in Lofa County, has clinched the Liberian Second Division league title, guaranteeing a spot in the national First Division league for the 2024/2025 season. This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone for the county, which will now have representation at the highest level of Liberian football.
While the 2024/2025 second division league season is not yet complete, Wologizi FC has already amassed an insurmountable 65 points, making them the champions with four matches still left to play. The Voinjama-based team has built a commanding 13-point lead over second-place Jubilee Football Club, who have 52 points. Their title was sealed on Wednesday evening at the D. Tweh Field in New Kru Town, where they delivered a dominant 7-1 victory over Mighty Enforcer, further cementing their position at the top.
Wologizi’s victory can be largely attributed to the remarkable performances of their top scorer, Francis Doe, who netted four goals in the crushing defeat of Mighty Enforcer. With this double brace, Doe’s goal tally for the season has now risen to 30, making him one of the most prolific players in the league as the top scorer. The club’s offensive power has been nothing short of spectacular, having scored a total of 75 goals this season while conceding just 25. This impressive goal-scoring advantage has given them a goal difference of +50, the highest in both the First and Second Division leagues for the current season.
Wologizi’s triumph is not just a testament to their on-field success but also a triumph for the entire Lofa County. The club’s rise to the First Division has brought immense pride to the county, and it comes as the county is still basking in the glory of their recent win in the national county sports meet.
With Wologizi’s promotion now confirmed, attention has shifted to the race for the remaining two spots in the First Division. The competition is heating up as the teams in second to fifth place Jubilee FC, Down Town FC, Margibi FC, and Samira FC fight for the promotion spots. These four clubs are separated by just a few points, and the final four matches of the season will be crucial in determining who will join Wologizi in the top flight.
The upcoming weeks are expected to be filled with excitement as these teams battle for supremacy. Jubilee FC currently holds the second position with 52 points, while Down Town, Margibi, and Samira are all closely trailing, each, with hopes of securing one of the coveted promotion spots.
Wologizi’s journey to the First Division is an inspiring story of hard work, perseverance, and unity. The club’s success is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Lofa County Sports Steering Committee Chairperson, Senator Momo Cyrus, who owns the club. Senator Cyrus, who is also a member of the county’s legislative body, has played a pivotal role in supporting and nurturing the team’s growth and success.
As the season draws to a close, the football community in Lofa County and across Liberia will be eagerly watching as the remaining spots in the First Division are decided. Wologizi FC’s promotion to the topflight is a historic achievement, and the team will undoubtedly be a formidable force in the First Division next season.
This achievement serves as a reminder of the importance of grassroots sports development and the power of community support in driving success. Lofa County, now with a team in the First Division, is poised to make an even greater impact on Liberian football in the years to come.
