A WAVE OF administrative unrest continues to rock the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), as Superintendent James Momo has publicly refuted allegations of financial impropriety amid a reported attempted arson at the institution’s central office.
ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, the Liberia National Police (LNP) confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with what authorities said was an attempt to set fire to the headquarters of MCSS in the suburb of Sinkor.
THE MOTIVE BEHIND the act remains under investigation, but sources within the institution claim the incident may be linked to internal power struggles and lingering discontent over recent administrative decisions.
WHAT HAPPENED AT the MCSS is not just another administrative hiccup, it is a brazen act of sabotage that threatens the very foundation of our public institutions.
THE ATTEMPTED ARSON at MCSS headquarters is an act of criminal cowardice; the fact that individuals, reportedly staff members were caught with gasoline and matches on the premises is chilling.
THIS IS NOT a protest; this is not frustration instead this is terrorism and it should be condemned in the strongest possible terms because no amount of grievance, power struggle and or internal dispute justifies an attempt to burn down a public institution.
LET US NOT forget this is exactly how the fire at the Capitol Building began with whispers, with warning signs, with authorities brushing off the smoke until the flames consumed the heart of our democracy.
GOD FORBIDS THAT we as Liberians will sit by and idly let history repeat itself therefore, if there is evidence of wrongdoing, let it be handled through legal and transparent means not through gasoline and fire.
SUPERINTENDENT JAMES MOMO has denied all allegations of financial mismanagement, and while due process must prevail, no one should use unverified claims as an excuse to commit arson.
LIBERIA CANNOT AND must not tolerate this kind of violence under any pretext and so, we demand swift justice for those responsible following a full investigation into the motive and prompt assurance of protection for all public institutions from those who seek to destroy them from within.
WE CANNOT ALLOW impunity to embolden arsonists, nor silence to normalize such brazen attacks and together let’s shout that ‘enough is enough’ describing this is an attack on education, an attack on governance, and an attack on the Liberian people.
Why All These Arson Attacks?
