A disturbing surge in violent robberies has left residents of Buchanan and its surrounding areas on edge, with journalist King Brown becoming the latest victim in what appears to be a growing pattern of criminal attacks.
Brown, a well-known broadcaster with Magic FM, was assaulted last week while on his way to Glory Chapel Church.
A short motorcycle ride that typically costs L$50 turned dangerous as he approached the Group of 77 Office, between Kpandy Town and Jacko Town intersection.
According to Brown, three men riding another motorcycle intentionally crashed into his vehicle in an apparent attempt to rob him. “They wanted to steal my phones,” he recounted.
Though Brown sustained cuts and bruises to his hands and legs, he managed to fend off the attackers and retain possession of his iPhone 11 and Samsung phone.
“We’re lucky there were no cars behind us. We could have been run over,” he said, still visibly shaken from the incident.
The crash forced both Brown and his motorcycle rider to the ground, narrowly avoiding a more catastrophic outcome.
After receiving medical care, Brown spoke out about the broader security concerns now gripping the community.
“This isn’t just happening to me,” he said. “We don’t feel safe anymore. When will these attacks stop?”
Residents say the streets of Buchanan have become increasingly dangerous in recent months, with criminals frequently targeting pedestrians and motorcycle passengers for mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.
Many feel authorities are not doing enough to deter the wave of street-level violence.
Brown’s experience has galvanized local conversation, as community members now question how long they must wait before action is taken to restore safety and confidence in their city.
As one voice among many, Brown is using his platform to urge law enforcement authorities to take decisive action. “People are living in fear,” he said, adding “This can’t continue unchecked.”
