Nimba Senator Nyan Tuanyen has endorsed the senatorial bid of Representative Samuel Kogar, in the wake of senatorial by-election in the county.
Speaking to reporters in the county, Senator Tuanyen said his decision is designed to strike a geographical balance among the majority tribes in the county at the level of the House of Senate.
According to Senator Tuanyen, his political decision to support Representative Kogar was done in consultations with Vice President Jeremiah Koung and President Boakai, respectively.
“I am a Unity Partisan and our party came to power to rescue the country and the Movement for Reconstruction and Development (MRD) backed by the late Senator PYJ is in alliance with UP. So I’m politically and willingly endorsing the candidacy of Representative Kogar,” Senator Tuanyen revealed.
As the senatorial by-election heats up in the county, Senator Nyan Tuanyen becomes the second Member of Parliament to openly declare support to a candidate. Representative Musa Bility, earlier made similar open declaration in favor of Mack Gblinwon of the Citizen Movement for Change, a political party headed by Rep Bility.
“Let me inform all those who are listening to me through various media that VP Koung and President Boakai are behind Representative Kogar,” senator Tuanyen boasted.
Meanwhile, Senator Tuanyen’s statement pledging support to Representative Kogar has now sparked a new front of political debate at various entertainment centers in the commercial city of Gompa and across the nine political districts in the county.
As the debate sways, some residents have condemned Senator Tuanyen for his political stance for what they perceive as preaching divisive politics while others are posting congratulatory messages through various social media posts and phoning in on community radio stations in Nimba for the Senator’s declaration.
It can be recalled that several personalities filed their intention with the National Elections Commission but so far the names of renowned candidates for the senatorial by-election are Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, Representative Samuel Kogar, Prophet Key, Matenokay Tingba, Garrison Yealu and Mack Gblinwon.
Since the beginning of March 2025, the six candidates along with their supporters are all reaching out in the nine electoral districts in the county meeting with various stakeholders including traditional chief and elder council, youth organizations, women group, local authorities behind closed doors dishing out “brown envelopes” believed to contain huge cash in the name of a political party and friends of the candidates.
