The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the National Road Fund, has embarked on a week-long road safety training for motorcyclists in Nimba, Bong, and Margibi Counties.
This initiative aims to enhance road safety awareness and reduce accidents involving motorcyclists.
Participants are required to receive training on traffic regulations, defensive riding techniques, and the importance of wearing protective gear.
The training, which commenced on February 18 in Ganta, Nimba County, continued on February 19 in Gbarnga, Bong County, and is set to conclude on February 20 in Kakata City, Margibi County.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Ganta, Assistant Minister for Land and Rail Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Zunu Dyann, emphasized the critical role of motorcyclists in promoting road safety.
Minister Dyann also announced that certificates and helmets would be awarded to those who successfully complete the program, underscoring the government’s commitment to equipping riders with essential safety gear. He urged participants to engage earnestly in the training, highlighting their potential impact on community well-being.
In October 2023, the Ministry of Transport distributed helmets to motorcycle operators in Bong, Nimba, and Margibi counties to ensure safer and more efficient motorcycle transport services across Liberia.
This latest training program focuses on educating motorcyclists about adhering to traffic regulations and adopting cautious riding practices to safeguard lives.
By instilling a culture of responsibility and awareness, the program aims to significantly reduce road accidents involving motorcycles.
The initiative is fully sponsored by the National Road Fund, reflecting a strategic investment in the safety and efficiency of Liberia’s transportation network.
As the training progresses, it is anticipated that the knowledge imparted will empower motorcyclists to become advocates for road safety within their communities, fostering a safer and more responsible riding environment nationwide.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and the National Road Fund demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing road safety challenges, particularly among motorcyclists, who constitute a substantial segment of Liberia’s road users.
