Mr. Sando S. Wayne, one of those who expressed the desire to contest senatorial by-elections in Grand Cape Mount County has tender in his resignation from the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
In a letter dated Monday, 5 August 2019, and submitted to CDC’s Chairman, Mulbah Morlu, Wayne stated: “In exercise of my constitutional and legal rights to belong to a political party of my choice and guided by law, I wish to resign as member of the Congress for democratic Change (CDC).”
Wayne is expected to be amongst score of others Cape Mountaineers who will be vying for the Senatorial seat created by the death of Edward Boakai Dagoseh of the former governing Unity Party (UP).
He was laid to rest since last month (July) following his demised from a period of illness. The National Elections Commission (NEC) last week announced a technical team to work out the details for the conduct of the poll in the county.
This will be Wayne second spell at the poll. His first was 2011 in the same senatorial race on the ticket of Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD), a marriage of two progressives bodies, the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) and the United People’s Party (UPP).
Until then, he served as Community Relations Manager of the Bea Mountain Company in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County. He once served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Public Policy Advisory to former Vice President, Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
Wayne, a political activist was the first Standard-Bearer of the Student Integration Movement (SIM), a University of Liberia student -based political party in an electoral process for the ULSU presidency in 1986, but he lost to the Student Unification Party (SUP) candidate, Samuel Kofi Woods.
Meanwhile, Montserrado County’s Electoral District #17 Representative, Hassan Kiazolu, has denied media reports of wanting to contest the pending by-elections in Grand Cape Mount County.
