Liberia Chess Federation (LCF) with daily cries of financial constraints and other issues is continuously moving on with roundup activities to the main events of the 2024 National Chess Championship and General Assembly (GA).
The federation on Saturday April 19, 2025 hosted a full day of individual national rapid chess championship with many top players participating in the several heated rounds of fast chess.
The one-day event as part of the delayed national championship was marked with excitement witnessing 26 active senior and junior players battling for the top three slots in Rapid chess throughout Liberia.
LCF president Thomas Karyah, disclosed that the representation in the tournament signaled significance cutting across the active brand of players involved in the game on both national and international scale.
According to him, though competitive events are currently under way at the chess house in Monrovia, the main events for chess will take stage May 2-9, 2025 with the open individual nine rounds classical championship.
He encouraged chess players from different parts of the country to take advantage of this year’s championship in order to gain more experience and with outstanding engagements in the game ahead of the December edition.
“As the activities continue, we are glad to see our players today from different range participating while we gear up for the main event from May 2-9.
Following that we will go to the GA and everything will be climaxed with the grand bull for awards,” he asserted.
At the close of the recent National Rapid event Liberia’s 2023 national champion, Leroy Debblay finished as winner with seven points from nine games, after collecting six wins, two draws and one defeat.
Candidate Master Daniel Kolliemelen, also completed the competition with even points with Leroy but got ranked in second place disadvantaged by the rules of their direct encounter which favored the rapid champion.
Another Candidate Master in John Jallah, finished as the top third with a total of six and half points after nine rounds.
