The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) will today, launch a groundbreaking policy document focusing on the professional registration, accreditation, and accountability of journalists and media practitioners in Liberia.
The document, according to the PUL, is the first of its kind in the Union’s recent history, as its official launch is scheduled for today, March 18, 2025, during a press conference at the PUL Headquarters in Monrovia.
The event, the Union’s release quoted its president, Julius Kanubah, as saying that the press conference will start at 10 a.m. and be open to journalists, media institutions, and communication professionals.
According to the PUL, the policy aims to enhance professional standards, promote ethical journalism, and ensure media accountability in Liberia, and as part of the launch, the leadership will announce the official commencement date for the long-awaited registration and accreditation process for journalists and media organizations.
The PUL release also stated that they will further unveil key activities leading up to this year’s World Press Freedom Day celebrations, as among these initiatives is a resource mobilization drive to settle an inherited debt of US$28,722 and fund the construction of the Union’s headquarters.
President Kanubah, in the release further urged journalists and media owners to attend the launch, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the media sector in advancing professionalism.
He asserted that the policy is expected to redefine media governance in Liberia, ensuring that journalists and media institutions operate within a structured and accountable framework, and added “We can achieve this together as a Union as such, I need everyone full participation in this initiative.”
