The National Port Authority (NPA) has officially launched a major renovation project at the Port of Greenville, signaling a renewed commitment to modernizing Liberia’s port infrastructure and boosting economic development.
The initiative aims to enhance port efficiency, facilitate trade, and stimulate economic activity in southeastern Liberia and beyond.
The renovation, which commenced on April 3, is part of a broader infrastructure overhaul strategy being spearheaded by NPA Managing Director Sekou A. M. Dukuly.
According to the NPA, this effort is designed to elevate operational standards and expand the port’s capacity to handle increased maritime traffic. Adding, the decision to renovate the Port of Greenville aligns with a resolution passed by the NPA Board of Directors, reaffirming its national infrastructure development goals.
Key components of the project include the upgrading of six critical infrastructure facilities within the port and the rehabilitation of the main access road leading from the port entrance to the pier.
However, at the official signing and handover ceremony, Managing Director at the Port of Greenville Sylvia A. Tarley, stressed the importance of timely delivery and adherence to high engineering standards.
She commended the Board and NPA management for their unwavering commitment to operational excellence and urged contractors to remain focused on quality execution.
She also extended heartfelt thanks to President Joseph Boakai for his continued support of Liberia’s national infrastructure agenda, particularly in relation to port modernization.
She further praised the leadership of Dukuly and reiterated that the Port of Greenville’s rehabilitation marks a crucial step toward strengthening the country’s seaport systems and promoting regional economic growth.
Meanwhile, the construction contracts were awarded to two Sinoe-based firms; PA Engineering and Construction Company (PAECC) and Raph Engineer and Construction Associates following a competitive and transparent procurement process conducted in line with Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) regulations.
The project is expected to significantly improve logistics, trade flow, and investment prospects in Sinoe County and surrounding areas once completed.
