Mali’s Interim President Hosts Liberian Delegation

Mali’s interim President, Assimi Goïta, has welcomed a high-level delegation from Liberia, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti.
The visit was part of Liberia’s diplomatic campaign to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
During the meeting at the presidential palace in Bamako, Foreign Minister Nyanti delivered a message of friendship and solidarity from President Joseph Boakai.
She emphasized the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two West African nations, reaffirming their longstanding diplomatic relationship.
Speaking on behalf of Liberia, Foreign Minister Nyanti underscored the country’s commitment to representing Africa’s strategic interests on the global stage.
She stressed that Liberia’s candidacy for the UNSC is driven by a dedication to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent.
“Liberia’s bid for the United Nations Security Council is rooted in our unwavering commitment to advancing Africa’s priorities. To achieve this, we seek the solidarity and support of our sister nations, including Mali, to secure a place where Liberia can be a strong voice for Africa,” Minister Nyanti stated.
She further highlighted Liberia’s unique experience in Peacebuilding, regional diplomacy, and post-conflict recovery, arguing that these strengths position the country as an effective advocate for Africa’s interests in global decision-making fora.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the strong bonds between Mali and Liberia.
Minister Nyanti expressed appreciation for Mali’s hospitality and constructive engagement, stating that she remains optimistic about Mali’s support for Liberia’s bid.
“We believe Liberia’s history of resilience and leadership in regional diplomacy make us well-suited to contribute meaningfully to the Security Council’s work,” she added.
Liberia’s diplomatic outreach to Mali is part of a larger strategy to garner widespread support across Africa for its UNSC bid.
Under President Boakai’s leadership, Liberia has been intensifying its engagement with regional partners, emphasizing its commitment to global peace, security, and multilateral cooperation.
The visit to Mali marks a significant milestone in this effort, reflecting Liberia’s renewed foreign policy priorities and its aspirations to play a greater role on the international stage.
As the race for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council heats up, Liberia will continue to seek endorsements from key African nations. With its historic role in African diplomacy and governance, the country hopes to secure a seat that will allow it to advocate for African unity, conflict resolution, and sustainable development at the highest levels of global governance.
