M-FOMTUL Calls For Gov’t’s Support, Unity

By Grace Q. Bryant

The President of the Federation of Motorcycle and Tricycle Union of Liberia (FOMTUL), John A.F. Kenyor, has urged safety, unity, and government support in response to recent restrictions on motorcycle operators in Monrovia and surrounding areas.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing, Kenyor addressed concerns over the enforcement of regulations limiting motorcycle access to main streets.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) implemented these measures to curb accidents and criminal activities often linked to motorcycle operations. While acknowledging the necessity of these restrictions for public safety, Kenyor stressed the importance of balancing security measures with the livelihoods of operators.

Kenyor reaffirmed FOMTUL’s commitment to promoting responsible riding and compliance with traffic laws. He highlighted ongoing efforts to educate members on safe riding practices and the importance of adhering to designated routes to minimize conflicts with law enforcement. These initiatives, he noted, are vital for improving both road safety and the public perception of motorcycle and tricycle operators.

Beyond safety concerns, the FOMTUL president called for unity among members, urging them to follow established guidelines to prevent confrontations with authorities.

He also appealed to the government to provide alternative opportunities for operators affected by the restrictions.

Kenyor emphasized the need for vocational training and support programs to help those struggling with income loss due to the new regulations.

Kenyor reaffirmed FOMTUL’s dedication to working alongside authorities to enhance safety while advocating for the rights and welfare of motorcycle and tricycle operators across Liberia.
